History

Churton’s Wine Bar and Restaurant has been part of Rossett for almost 30 years.  The Churton name has a fascinating history behind it that goes back much further.

Percy Vardon Churton started a wine and spirit shipping business in Liverpool in 1851. In 1905 he joined forces with his lifelong friend and competitor Joseph Hetherington.

In 1914 they were trading as Churtons Ltd and specialising in the importation of wines and rum and blending whiskey. Churtons VOBG (Very Old Blended Glenlivet) Scotch Whiskey became one of their best known  brands and was successfully marketing as being the “Chairman’s Choice”.

In 1975 Churtons Ltd was sold and the immediate family formed Churton Cousins Ltd and by the start of the 1980’s the fifth generation of the Churton family were running the business. In 1982 Churtons Wine Bar opened in Rossett.

Churton’s continues as a family business and Nick and Maggie Churton have recently welcomed their son Sam into the restaurant.
